The role of military is to defend the people in the country. It is for reason that criminals of military are ought to be punished more strictly than ordinary criminals. Also they are Americans, but they are working in Japan, so they are punished by Japnese military law. In conclusion, I think they sould be punished as equal as Japanese military who commited crime.
